Haldwani Zoo Safari and A Walk In The Woods organized two days butterfly awareness campaign at Haldwani Zoo campus, Haldwani, Uttarakhand. The aim was to promote butterfly identification and conservation. This was the first study to prepare a base line data of butterflies found in Haldwani Zoo. The resource persons through their inspired talks motivated the participants for butterfly conservation in particular and wildlife conservation in general. The workshop started with all participants taking an oath to protect butterfly and wildlife. After a brief introduction about butterflies, their identification and photographing, the participants started searching and identifying the butterflies. During the course of two days campaign, a total of 62 species of butterflies were identified. This was the preliminary exercise and officers and staff of forest department with the help of experts in this field will regularly monitor and identify more species of butterfly found in the Haldwani Zoo. The resource persons were Dr. Shankar Kumar and Mr.Gopal Singh Karki. The participants included officers and staff of Haldwani Zoo, Chakata Range, Nandhour Wild Life Sanctuary and staff from adjacent divisions of Western Circle. A total of 45 participants were benefited from this training.
